I always wanted to be a police officer, and police work the way I did it was helping people. It was the classic 'public service' model. When you're the one who's called at three in the morning it's a huge responsibility. The only way to do it is to treat people fairly and do what you can to help. You pry them from their wrecked cars or go look for the sound that goes bump in the night. You also put the bad people in jail - the ones with guns, knives, and those who are drunk and hurt people. That's what you're there for.
